We are a parent-run daycare centre (Elterninitiativ-Kita, EKT) providing care for children aged 1 to 6 years in a mixed-age group of around 20 children. We offer a warm, family-like environment where children have space to play, explore, be active, and grow.
Our Team
We are an experienced and well-established team with a high level of continuity. Our staff includes one educational specialist (Diplom-Pädagogin), two early childhood educators, one social worker, one trainee educator, and one volunteer completing a voluntary social year (FSJ). Each team member contributes their own interests and talents. Together with the children, we perform theatre, read stories, do gymnastics, create arts and crafts, draw, garden, take photographs, dance, make music, sing, philosophise, go on excursions and bike rides, and visit theatres and museums.
What Matters to Us
We ensure that our daycare centre remains open at all times. Even in the event of unexpected staff absences, we organise solutions so that childcare continues without interruption. This reliability provides families with security and gives children the stability of a consistent daily routine. Our families form a supportive network and help one another whenever needed.
Most of our team members have been with us since the daycare centre was founded and have worked together in a trusting partnership for many years. This continuity creates a strong sense of community—within the team, in our relationships with families, and in our interactions with the children. We treat one another with care, respect, and understanding, even in challenging situations. Parents know they can rely on us as flexible partners who work together to ensure that every child feels safe and well cared for.
We support children through an educational approach that combines clear guidance with warmth and affection. Consistency is an important part of our work. We build lasting relationships with children and their families from the end of parental leave until the transition to primary school. Even when we need to explain that a certain behaviour was not appropriate, we remain by the child’s side and encourage them to try again next time. In this way, children learn that they are accepted and valued regardless of their behaviour.
In our mixed-age group, children grow up in a close-knit community. Older children naturally take responsibility for younger ones, developing empathy, care, and consideration. At the same time, younger children experience the value of mutual support. We also offer age-appropriate activities and dedicated time for different age groups. Through shared responsibilities and everyday tasks, children learn to contribute to the group and develop a strong sense of community.
Throughout the year, we organise creative projects that become part of everyday life and our celebrations. Whether through theatre performances, songs, or artistic activities, the children enjoy creating, practising, and presenting their work. Our celebrations are special highlights where children proudly share what they have accomplished and the entire daycare community comes together. These shared experiences strengthen our community and create lasting memories.
Our daily routines are consistent and predictable, providing children with security and orientation. We place great importance on sharing meals together, so there is no need for children to bring their own lunchboxes. We see children as capable and independent individuals and give them plenty of opportunities for free play, decision-making, and active participation in everyday daycare life.
We spend time outside every day, visiting nearby playgrounds, local parks, and the “Nasses Dreieck” green space. Children explore their neighbourhood and experience nature and their local community firsthand.
Our daycare thrives on the active involvement of families. All parents contribute by taking on small tasks such as minor repairs, shopping, organising celebrations, or helping with practical matters.
On average, we ask parents to contribute around 2–4 hours per month. By working together, we shape the daycare and its daily life as a community while strengthening the bonds between families.
We are able to welcome and support children with additional developmental or special educational needs.
